Prof. Dr. Ir. Siti Nurbaya Bakar, M.Sc.

Prof. Dr. Ir. Siti Nurbaya Bakar, M.Sc., is Indonesia’s Minister of Environment and Forestry for the 2014-2019 and 2019-2024 periods. During her tenure as Minister, she has made many wildlife and environmental conservation policies, as stated in her scientific oration. Prof. Dr. Ir. Siti Nurbaya Bakar, M.Sc., conveys the novelty of “Indonesia’s Forestry and Other Land Use (FOLU) Net Sink 2030: Innovation in Environmental and Forestry Governance” which is a condition that is to be achieved through reducing Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions from the forestry and land use sectors, with conditions where the absorption rate is the same or higher than the emission rate.

One of her most outstanding achievements as a Minister was establishing the Plasma Nutfah Center in the Ibu Kota Nusantara, East Kalimantan. She also fully supported the construction of the Advanced Reproductive Technologies and Biobank laboratory at IPB University, which will be a pioneer in efforts to save endangered species and the genetic material of Indonesian wildlife.
